Density dependent Resource Budget Model for alternate bearing

Alternate bearing, seen in many types of plants, is the variable yield with a strongly biennial pattern. In this paper, we introduce new model for alternate bearing behavior. Similar to well-known Resource Budget Model, our based on balance between photosynthesis or other limiting resource accumulation and reproduction processes. We consider two novel features model, 1) existence finite capacity tree’s reservoir 2) possibility having low (but non-zero) when level low. achieve former using density dependent function, latter by removing concept well-defined threshold used Model. At an individual tree, has stable two-cycle solution, which suitable plants behavior pronounced. incorporate environmental stochasticity adding uncorrelated noise terms parameters associated nutrient Furthermore, examine model’s system coupled trees direct coupling. Unlike only solution out-of-phase coupling in-phase period-2 solutions. This suggests that might serve explain spatial synchrony larger scale.
